Witness Protection Agency Strengthens Financial Governance through Regional International Financial Reporting Standards Training in Banjul, The Gambia
MONROVIA, Liberia — The Witness Protection Agency (WPA) of the Republic of Liberia has designated two senior finance officials to participate in a high-level regional training on modern financial reporting and transparency in Banjul, The Gambia, as part of the Agency's ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional financial management, accountability and transparent financial reporting.
Representing the Agency are Financial Manager/Comptroller, Mr. Oliver G. Toe, and Assistant Manager for Finance, Mrs. Satta Morris Massah, who are attending the Regional Course on Modern Financial Reporting and Risk Transparency: International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs), taking place from July 6–10, 2026.
The week-long regional course organized by the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), Lagos, Nigeria brings together finance and public sector professionals from across the West African Region to strengthen technical expertise in the application of modern financial reporting and risk transparency, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the use of internationally recognized financial soundness indicators for measuring institutional performance, risk transparency, and fiscal accountability.
The WPA considers the participation of its finance personnel in the regional training course as a strategic investment in the professional development of the human resource and a critical step toward enhancing the Agency's overall financial governance. The knowledge and practical skills acquired through the risk transparency, IFRS and FSIs training will contribute to improving financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, solidifying fiscal probity and promoting greater efficiency in the management of public resources.
The Agency reaffirms that sound financial management remains fundamental to fulfilling its statutory mandate of protecting witnesses, victims, and whistleblowers within and across the borders of Liberia. By continuously building the capacity of its personnel, the WPA seeks to ensure that public resources entrusted to the institution are managed with the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and transparency.
The Agency further states that its participation in the regional program reflects the Government of Liberia's broader commitment to aligning public financial management practices with internationally accepted standards and further advancing the country's obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) as well as other treaties and conventions to which Liberia is a State Party.
As the national institution responsible for administering Liberia's witness protection program, the WPA remains committed to institutional excellence through continuous professional development, good governance, and adherence to international best practices.
