Liberia Strengthens Criminal Justice System With Enhanced Witness Protection in Drugs Investigations

The Witness Protection Agency says the Government of Liberia is reinforcing its criminal justice system through stronger witness protection measures and improved investigative procedures in ongoing drug-related prosecutions.
Speaking at Ministry of Information press briefing, the Director of the Witness Protection Agency (WPA), Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby, said the initiative aims to reduce civil disorder, protect investigations, and ensure accountability in high-profile drug cases.
He explained that existing laws allow the state to protect witnesses at different stages of the justice process, including during investigations and pre-trial proceedings, especially those providing credible information.
Atty. Grigsby also noted that some suspects in recent drug cases are cooperating with law enforcement, helping to identify others linked to criminal networks.
He reaffirmed that Liberia witness protection system is supported by national laws and international conventions, stressing that all investigative procedures must comply with international human rights standards to avoid undermining the country’s obligations
